Daily Yoga Practice / Mindful Meditation

My yoga practice has been expanding and evolving as the sun rises and sets. I have been playing with sitting. Sitting in correct alignment, which also assists the mindful meditation process. I start my practice sitting for around 30 minutes. Being aware of 10 check points:
1) Inward spiral
2) Grounded sit bones
3) Even pelvis
4) Length in the front and back torso
5) Length in the side body
6) Upper arms out, helping the scapula be engaged
7) Head looking forward and directly on my spine
8) Releasing the jaw
9) Tongue relaxed to the roof the palate
10) And a slight smile

These 10 principles have strengthened my yoga practice tremendously. After I sit and mediate with awareness, I flow right into my asana practice, and my practice beams with joy. I would strongly recommend experimenting with a mindful meditation at the beginning of your practice!

Happy Spring! Balancing Yoga Asanas!

Happy Spring!

To bring in the spring, I decided to have my practice focus on balancing poses, as the energy that day was already supporting me in the balance of day and night. I felt so blissful. Balancing poses really help me connect with my center and bring a sense of peacefulness to my mind, body and spirit. Balancing reminds me how to root and ground myself into mother earth. I feel so steady and lengthened after doing my practice with the intention of rooting my body to ground while rising my body to the sky.

Yoga Props: Yoga straps, blocks, blankets and sandbags!

Yoga Props: Yoga straps, blocks, blankets and sandbags!

I love how yoga straps, blocks and blankets are such an asset to my yoga practice. They really help me be extra conscious of my alignment. They also help me feel my muscle energy engagement and to work my inward spiral. Yoga straps, blocks and blankets really help me take my practice one step further. My client mentioned sandbags to me, for extra weight. I have always just used blankets, although this new idea of sandbags is quite intriguing. I think I will have to explore it more!

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga asanas are so divine! I did a restorative yoga practice. It was therapeutic. There are so many different types of yoga. So many different ways of doing your yoga practice. So many benefits of all the yoga ansanas. Yoga is powerful and beautiful. My restorative practice helps me go deeper into my mediation practice and allows me to rest while stretching and strengthening. Sometimes when I feel my day is so busy, restorative yoga is the most beneficial and perfect practice for me. The variety of yoga there is to explore and play with never ceases to amaze me!

meditative massage / energetic bliss / peaceful surrender

Meditation while giving massage. When I first finished massage school in 2003, it never dawned on me that my meditation practice would benefit as my massage practice expanded. As I look more deeply into my massage practice, I notice that when I begin a session, my energy drops much deeper into my core. It's almost as though my client and I have a shared sense of peacefulness. It's this surrender of holding onto...onto....onto what if's...onto what is the next step in our life is....on negative thoughts.....on to any thoughts....it feels so pure and beneficial. I feel so blessed to be able to share my body work with others. Giving and receiving body work feel so vital to my breath and growth. I feel without being the one "giving" and without being the one "receiving" I would not feel as energetically full as I feel right now. Massage helps me move forward in my life....

The Benefits Of Massage

Today I worked with a client who wanted to know what exactly the benefits of massage were. I explained that there were many, and I thought it would be a good idea to share my top ten:

Top 10 reasons why massage is beneficial to the body, mind and spirit:
1) Massage increases blood flow and circulation.
2) Massage increases lymph flow. The lymph is an essential fluid for healthy body cells and tissues.
3) Massage enhances the condition and suppleness of the skin.
4) Massage rehabilitates injuries.
5) Massage opens and lengthens the muscles.
6) Massage creates more mobility.
7) Massage releases adhesions ("knots").
8) Massage opens blockages in the body, both physically and energetically.
9) Massage encourages deep relaxation.
10) Massage calms the mind and nervous system, thus reducing stress and anxiety!

Yoga Asana's, Stretching and the "Shake of Truth"

The “shake of truth”.... When one stretches the muscles, fibers break and then realign into the position that they are stretched in.

I believe that muscles learn the correct alignment the best the longer the stretch is held.

In my practice, I hold my asana's in an isometric position and encourage my clients to do the same. In doing so, this will maximize the full benefits of stretching. For instance, I was working with one of my clients and we were doing a hamstring stretch and her leg started to tremor. When that happens, there is nothing wrong - it just means that energy is flowing, muscles are realigning and movement is happening. As we discussed her leg tremor, she told me she had just moved from North Carolina and her yoga teacher there called the tremor the “shake of truth.” I love that saying.
When you are doing your practice at home, and the tremor happens, try not to shy away from it.....welcome the visitation of the “shake of truth”!

Magic

I choose pleasure!!!

I see magic in my massage, yoga and personal training practice. Magic twirls with us, around us and in us. We create magic. We breathe magic. We are magic.

Angels look out for us, spirits guide us and fairies dance with us.

All we need to do is open ourselves up and listen.

Yoga / HamStrings / Flow

Yesterday I spent my evening yoga practice focusing on my hamstrings. Making sure every asana I did involved all of my three hamstrings. Oh my goodness - was it good! I felt such an lift and expansion. It was so needed especially considering all the walking that happens in the city. I felt like a new women. I really enjoy doing my practice focusing specifically on one area of the body. It really feels like I can address the area on a deeper level. I do also enjoy my practice to be a general flow. I enjoy that more in the morning and specificity more in the evening. Really anytime I do my yoga practice I fall in love all over again no matter what time of the day, what I am working on....it's pure love.

Massage Exchanges - How receiving is learning

How beneficial it is to do massage exchanges with fellow colleagues.

I just did an exchange with a dear friend of mine Carrie. It was stupendous. Not only was it beneficial for my mind, body and spirit, but I also learned some new tricks to put in my hat.

Receiving is learning. I feel like that goes for so many things. When one gives them self an experience to receive, it allows them to grow. To give is to receive and to receive is to give. Its all a circle. I learn when I give and I learn when I receive. It's all one! How beautiful!

Om Shanti

Deep Tissue / Forearm Massage / PNF Stretching

Today I had a client who requested a 1.5 hour deep tissue massage and then a .5 hour reflexology session. I decided to do the deep tissue primarily with my fore arms, elbows and PNF stretching. I chose to so this so I could go to a deeper level and to save my thumbs and hands for specific point work on the feet. It worked wonderfully. I was able to get to the particular muscles, and trigger points I wanted to access with out using my hands. My client loved it! It was a success, I have to say I just love experimenting with how my body can make contact with another being. I love bodywork!

Yoga in the morning

Early morning yoga.

How delightful. How wonderful it is to bring in the morning in with sun and moon salutations. To open the mind, body and spirit to movement!

I so enjoy my morning yoga practice. It helps me get ready for my day in a peaceful matter. It is so interesting how much more full I feel and awake I am when I do my morning yoga. How much more enjoyment I have during the day.

I thrive off moving, working and feeling my body! How great it is to be alive and breathing!

The breath, how powerful it is to engage the breath, in my yoga practice and my day to day activity. How much more conscious I become with my day to day activity when I engage my breath. How much more energy I have. I am so grateful for yoga.

Hula-Hooping / Reflexology

My first blog entry, here we go....

I have been hula-hooping daily. Loving it! Hula-hooping works the deep abdominal, especially the obliques and tranverse abdominals. Some exorcises just don't go that deep and are much more painful! As well as being a cardio work out, Hula-Hoopings is fun too!

I have been doing a fair amount of reflexology lately and feeling how wonderful and beneficial it is on all levels.

Now I am going to play more with this blog.
